Laura:

I love your pie shells!

I have been buying and loving your product at Whole Foods for over a year.

I have made countless pies. Yesterday I baked off 2 shells. Filled one with fresh cut strawberries (no liquid, no added sugar) topped with hand whipped cream. The other I made a vanilla custard--sliced two bananas and again topped with the cream. My dinner guests thought I was Jacques Torres !

My daughter who makes & bakes everything from scratch is so impressed with your product.

Cheers,

Hello!

I am an old bachelor who buys one frozen pie every week, usually a Stouffers or a Mrs. Smith.  This week I got one of your blueberry/apple pies.  I baked it yesterday (thanks for the tip about putting sugar on it before baking).

I just finished the first piece and it was far superior to any other frozen pie I've ever tried.  Juicy, excellent flavor, and the crust is very tasty.  I'm glad I tried it.

As long as the Brick, NJ, A&P has your pies in stock I will buy one every week.  Feel free to let the A&P know I said so.   :-)

WOW! I bought a blueberry /apple pie today and I have to say not only was the pie absolutely delicious but the crust? PERFECTION. And it comes unbaked and frozen no less. Well, I am now a fan. The artwork on the box was charming and the product inside was outstanding. Thank You.

Gidday - My husband and I  had the good fortune to buy one of your pies at WholeFoods in Washington DC.   We are visitors from Australia, and even though organics and good food  generally are not main stream in our country we enjoy eating natural, good  tasting food.

Your pie was delicious!  How I wish your  product (and the countless others we tried while in the US) was available in  our country. We'd be thrilled to have our praise noted on your website.  Your pie **was** truly delicious, and deserves all the praise it gets. Now I'm back here in Oz, all the supermarket stock in the freezer is SaraLee - YUCK!  If we want pie, I'm afraid I make my own. Keep up the great work and I sincerely hope you can retire a wealthy man.

Kind regards,

I don't typically write companies about their products, in fact, this is the first time without it being a complaint.  I consider myself an apple pie fan, and I've had a few good ones in my day, but none like yours.  My wife picked it up for me at Whole Foods and even she, who doesn't consider herself a "pie person" had to admit it was quite good.  On the other hand, I couldn't stop raving and my six year old son agrees.  Job well done, keep it up!

Dear Laura,

I was happily surprised to receive your lovely note wherein you asked permission to use my comments regarding your pies on The Vermont Mystic Pie Company website. Laura, I am honored that you want to put me "in print". Please feel free to use any or all of my comments on your website. I do believe that Vermont Mystic Pies are the very best frozen pies on the market today. And, they really do taste "homemade".

Since writing you I have bought myself three more Mystic Pies so that makes five in total. I've eaten four of them already and I've not shared one bite with anyone else! (Blush) Today I went with a friend to Whole Foods where we did a bit of shopping and I introduced her to Vermont Mystic Pies. It was there I bought my fifth Mystic Pie and she bought her first. I told another friend, Judy, about the wonder of your pies and she, who considers herself a very good chief and a master of pastry, said it was impossible for anyone to  make a frozen pie as good as the one I described. She said she'd believe it only after she had tasted a piece of Mystic Pie. Well, Judy will be invited to my house to sample a slice of the Mystic Apple Pie I bought today. I have no doubt that after she has conducted  her own "taste test" she will be a believer.

I look forward to seeing my comments on your website. Until then I remain. . .

Sincerely yours,
Joan

Hi Mystic Pie People,

We love your pie. This is a little hard for me to admit as I love to bake and I make great pies, as well as cakes and puff pastries. I would never serve a frozen pie if I had time to make one from scratch. So I was a little surprised when friends invited us for dinner recently and, in response to my polite “Sure, what can we bring?,” they asked us to bring one of your pies.

The story is a little poignant as the man in the couple is a cancer survivor who's trying to get his appetite and weight back up. It was he who told me, “Get a Mystic Pie! I like blueberry. You can find it in the frozen section of Green Life...” (a local “natural” grocery here in Asheville). He loves the desserts I've baked for them, so I asked, “Are you sure?” Absolutely, he assured me. I am a pretty good cook and pastry “chef” myself, and am highly suspicious of “store bakeries” and frozen desserts. When our friend specifically requested a Mystic Pie, I was a little crestfallen; why didn't he ask me to bake him a pie from scratch? But we wanted to make him happy, so we were pleased to be able to agree. Imagine my surprise and pleasure to discover that all the claims on your (wonderfully designed and illustrated) package were true, true, true! I've never had pastry in a previously frozen product that was so light, crispy, flaky, and buttery. How you did it, I don't know; why others can't/won't do it is more the pity for them. Never again a Mrs. Smith's pie! Mystic or home-baked from now on.

We found the Mystic Pies just where he said, and chose the Blueberry with Apple. We baked it ahead of time, and except for a bit of the filling boiling up and spilling over the edge, it turned out beautifully. (I followed your package advice and had lined the baking sheet with ample tinfoil so I caught all the spillover. My convection oven also bakes a little hot, I think.

One last word: I have always loved Robert Huneck's paintings of Sally. Our veterinarian's office is covered with framed Huneck prints. Years ago my husband and I rescued and fostered a starving but hugely pregnant black Lab two days before Xmas. The next night, two weeks earlier than our vet guessed, she gave us nine puppies, which we raised under foot for 10 weeks before we placed mama Gracie and all nine offspring with great new adoptive homes. Huneck's “Sally” completely captures that blend of love, interest, engagement and inscrutability that “is” the faithful black Lab. So I really appreciate not only your use of Huneck's art, but also your kindly providing a link on your Website “about the artist”! I always wanted to know who he was and more about him.

I just wanted to write and tell you how wonderfully well the dessert turned out. We served the warm pie with Ben & Jerry's vanilla ice cream, the perfect complement. Our friend and his wife were delighted with the pie, and so were my husband and I. I must admit, it was a heck of a lot easier to bake your pie than to make one of my own from scratch. I couldn't believe your package's claim that it would be better than anybody's pie except maybe my Grandma's, but I was wrong and you were right.

Keep making those pies!

Warmly, and thanks again to everyone with Vt. Mystic Pie,
Ann

I just discovered your pies at my local Whole Foods Market. The colorful box grabbed my attention, then upon reading about the all natural ingredients, I thought it should be good. I was very pleasantly rewarded by my decision to buy your pie as FINALLY, after years of trying to find a good, homemade tasting apple pie, Vermont Mystic Pie was the best I have ever tasted. I couldn't believe I had finally found a store bought pie, that tastes so very homemade. I can't tell you how happy I am to have discovered your pies. I just wish I had a big freezer to stock up! Thank you so much for the work you put in to produce this quality product - and for the great instructions you provide on baking it the exact way we like it to turn out.

I love your pies. This week, I went to my local Whole Foods in Charlottesville, VA. There was not a pie to be found. Do you all have any say about which Whole Foods carries your pies? Also, can I request that the other natural/organic food stores here [ Fabulous Foods, Rebeccas] carry your pies? Or do you ship pies directly? I used to order from a little company out of Boston called tiny trapeze [ the best, most lovingly packaged treats]. They were bought by Whole Foods. Good for them, sad for me. I've only seen their peanut brittle at WF. I hope this does not happen to you. I look forward to enjoying your pies in the near future.

Happy New Year, Mary

Enjoyed your apple blueberry pie while visiting in West Dover, Vt. I then checked the local supermarket (Hannaford's) when we returned to Hampton, N. H.--they only had the apple but I bought it and it is cooking now--can't wait to eat it. I hope I will be able to find your pies when we return to Florida next month (I am willing to drive to the Whole Foods which is a bit of a distance to get one). Love the box art work, too.

Laura - my wife and I just had our first Vermont Mystic apple pie and it was awesome. Equal to or better than home made! We lived in Essex, Vt for about 3 years and fell in love with VT and all the great food products and arts and crafts. We're now in Chicago, but count us in for more and I can't wait to try the blueberry. Just wanted to share with you how much we liked the pie. Thanks

I got an AWESOME frozen pie for Thanksgiving at Whole Foods yesterday. Vermont Mystic Pie.

We got the blueberry apple pie and it was amazingly delish. And it was only $9.99 - way cheaper than the pies in the bakery section, and in my opinion it was better because it tasted 100% fresh after cooking it in the oven. With a scoop of Haagen-Daaz vanilla on it, it was fantastic. I will be getting this pie for future events. My mouth is watering as I write this!!

Just want to complement you on the best pie. I purchased an apple blueberry pie for Thanksgiving at the Whole Foods Market in Woodland Hills, CA. and it was the Best.

Thank you! The crust was incredible-light and flaky and the filling was not too sweet. I hope to give my hand a try at pie baking sometime.

Well, there was a black Lab on the front, so it quickly drew our eye. We have just lost our 17-year-old Sybil, the angel of our life, and the dog on the pie had the same expression. We call it the Lab face, wonderfully effective when trying to get something or convey a feeling. I had seen Steve Huneck's books (and now plan to buy them) and his other Labish products, but this one took the cake, er, pie. I can't see the whole dog but I know that tail is wagging--rather like ours when we eat the pie.

Price looked good. Ingredients were right -- and, we discovered later on reading the pie crust box, your politics also were as satisfying as your pie. Love the web site, too. I laughed at the snowplow and the birds and the barks. How wonderful. I plan to explore it more next time I have free time on the computer.

Result: Three addicted, dog-loving, pie-eating fans in Kentucky. There is a problem in that you "can't eat just one" slice and if it doesn't come out even, there is maneuvering by three otherwise unselfish adults to obtain that last piece.

This pie, these crusts, are just unbelievable. My daughter is a great gourmet/healthy cook and makes a wonderful crust. But now she uses yours whenever she has them. And no complaints about that.

Only one request: more flavors, cherry first, then whatever. I suspect you can't miss. It's not that we're tired of the two you have, we just want more, more more.

Your pie shell box or pie box sits around for days and days until one of us gets sane and tosses it out. I know of no other produce of any kind that has such attractive packaging. Period. You have done everything right. Thank you.

I bough the pie at Whole Foods in Louisville.

Dear Pie Folks,

Your blueberry/apple pie really was the best, most delicious pie I've ever eaten, and I love the instructions you sent on how to bake it. Thank you so much for caring so much and for making such a great product. In case you're interested, I bought it at our local Wild Oats store here in Albuquerque. Good luck to you all.

Yesterday there was a pie-party at our house and someone brought one of your apple pies, so even though I didn't get a piece, I am left with the wonderful pie plate with the Mystical Pie, so this morning I felt strongly compelled to go to your website.

Even though I have dial-up, I laughed out loud when I saw the pie making crew raise the pies over their heads! I love your website, I guess that's because I'm a Vermonter and a mystic to boot!

I am coincidentally currently reading an interview with Marc Ian Barash. Is he related to David?

Thank you for continuing the wonderful spirit of Vermont.

We have just had our very first Vermont Mystic Pie and were thrilled!! We purchased the blueberry with apple for our Thanksgiving dinner. Every year prior to this I have made my own homemade pies and the crusts were always from scratch. I have been doing this for over 30 years.

This year I have had to go back to work full time and just didn't have the time or energy to bake. I felt I was letting the family down until we all got a taste of your wonderful pie!! Thank you so much for allowing us to have a quality product and allowing me to relax.

We will be traveling to my sons college graduation in Vermont next month. I would like to know if you have a factory store that we can visit. I can get more pies locally, but would love to see the factory and purchase them directly.

We have been visiting Vermont for 4 years of college now and have been to the Cabot creamery and to Ben and Jerry's for tours and to buy products that were not easily found in the local supermarkets.

Now I can serve a pie and not worry that it will taste store bought!!

I forgot to say in the first email, that I also like the pan you use. It will be reusable and not encourage more trash. We are avid recyclers and I have always hated using those throw away aluminum pans. Yours is sturdy enough that I can use it again. Your's is a great company all around. I will recommend you to friends and family!

Please let me know if you do have a factory store and/or tour as we would love to visit.

Sincerely Liz Billerica Massachusetts

Dave & Laura,

I read about your pies in one of my health magazines. They sounded good from what was written and my husband and I decided to try one. When I was at Whole Foods in the Chicago land area I was purchased one of your apple pies. Two days later I baked the pie and about one hour after the pie had come out of the oven the whole darn pie was gone...... My husband and I ate the entire pie. Wow, what a great pie. Thanks for a great pie. Good thing we don't live too close to Whole Foods!!!!!

I bought one of your pies today from Whole Foods for my family. Just wanted to let you know how much we loved it! (and the packaging!). I bought the pie at our local Whole Foods in Westwood, next to UCLA. I wasn't shopping for a pie but when I saw the packaging (whomever you hired to brand your product did a terrific job), then read the box I was sold. I bought the blueberry/apple. It tastes homemade...and just so you know, I am not only a huge pie-buyer but I am also an avid pie-maker! Anyway, it's great to have an all-natural dessert that actually tastes good for once.

I wanted to thank you for your generous support of KQED during the last membership drive. I rely on KQED for non-corporate news and information. Your support is most appreciated.

I am also a VT native so was naturally drawn to "home" and thoughts of my mom's apple pie. I was delighted when I went to your website and saw the dogs of dog mountain on your packaging (I'm originally from the Kingdom).

And then to discover the connection to Ben and Jerry's (definitely not the same quality since the sale) and Champlain Orchards (when I lived in Burlington we went there to pick apples) - Just when I didn't think it could be any better - I read the "what people say" and realized that I could find one of your pies in my new home town in Mill Valley, CA.

I will elbow my way through the pilates pant clad trophy wives, the nannies with the Hummer sized strollers, the produce displays made from exotic hardwood and be greeted by the flock of self righteous Whole Food employees just to pick up one of your pies.

Only for the reward of one of your pies will I happily make that journey... wish me luck.

I can't wait!

Thanks Again Karrie, San Francisco, Calif

I have used a total of 4 of your crusts, and simply want to tell you how good they are. Today I made an old recipe of mine, a chocolate nut pie and used the unbaked crust.  Did not freeze it, as you suggest first. I have to tell you I found it very difficult to pre-bake my pie crust the first time I used the crust. How can you put a pound of beans in a hot oven?  I was sure it would burst, so I simply put a sort of heavy bowl on it, and it turned out ok, but from now on I will only use the unbaked pie crust which I plan to do Thanksgiving with my pumpkin pie.  But I am happy to have discovered you cuz I am a "from scratch" cook and for decades I have made my own pie crust. No more.

However, I owe you one, so here is my recipe for chocolate pie.  This is an evolved recipe and I am giving you amounts for 2 pies.  (I have boy grandchildren).   1 cup coarsely chopped toasted nuts (pecans and/ or walnuts)  2 pie crusts.        1 12 ounce bag of choc chips, semi sweet (you could use squares of choc.)  2 sticks unsalted butter.   1/2 cup sugar.  4 eggs well beaten.

Combine chocolate and butter in large glass bowl and microwave 1 minute. Stir.  A couple of seconds more and let sit till all blended, stirring.  Add the sugar.  Add a small amount to the WELL BEATEN eggs, and then combine the whole thing.  Be sure the chocolate is not hot hot.  Blend and divide--this amount is perfect for the two pies.  I bake at 350 for about 25 minutes, but it is done when it looks right, puffing.  Serve with whipped cream, ice cream.  Tonight, I am putting some sliced strawberries about it before the whipped cream.

Thanks again, Clare, Atlanta, GA 30305

David  and Laura, I purchased a blueberry/apple pie this weekend at Whole Foods in  St. Louis, MO and wanted to tell you I thought it was absolutely wonderful. The crust was great and the blueberries were perfect. It wasn't  overly sweet. liked the re-usable tin and loved the artistic  packaging.  My compliments to you.  I'll definitely purchase your  product again. I hope peach pie is next on your list.

The pies were in the frozen section on an end where they frequently have "specials."  When I went by that section this past Saturday, there was a man looking at the pies.  I told him, "Don't buy one of those because you'll end up sitting down with a spoon and eating the whole thing."   We exchanged a smile and he opened the freezer door and selected a pie then he headed over to the ice cream section saying, "You gotta have ice cream with pie."   I felt good about my little "commercial" for your pies.  In truth, I bought ANOTHER one.  Blueberry again!

Keep makin' those pies!

Just wanted you to know that your pie (I tried the Apple), is the BEST frozen pie I have ever eaten! It tasted like homemade; none of that "goop" you normally find in store-bought frozen pie. Also, just the right amount of sweetness and cinnamon, more fruit, and it even smelled like a homemade pie while it was baking!

In the past, if I bought a frozen pie, after eating a slice, I often felt guilty and a little sick, because of the actual sickening-sweet filler and tasteless crust, and NO ONE came back for "seconds". Not so with your pie. The crust actually has terrific flavor, it was so packed with fruit that after having a slice I actually felt great! I believe that I ate something that was GOOD for me, and, it tasted DELICIOUS!

It's obvious that your choices in the ingredients you are using to make your pies sets you far above and apart from the othe frozen pie manufacturers. Please KEEP DOING THIS!

I purchased the pie at the Wild Oats grocery store in Park City, Utah.

All the best to you & everyone at Vermont Mystic Pie Company-

Hi there! I live in FL and miss some of my favorites from Home .. Especially Apple Pie. I was so delighted to try your Pie that I purchased from Native Sun. The crust was amazing and tasted like it was home made. I will definitely be back for more and maybe share some with my friends! ;)

I bought it (the pie) at Earth Fare here in Columbia South Carolina...if I knew how to bake it would have been a pie that I'd like to have created...it was great how many more flavors do you have? My favorite pie is a pineapple filling pie...and what do you think about a pineapple and cherry or blueberry? Your pie is great can't wait to try other flavors.

There is a pie company here in oregon, that makes home made pies, and we bought their pies, but we found out recently, they use hydrogenated oils in their pies. We recently discovered your pie at a "Wild Oats" grocery store, and because it said made with real butter, we couldn't resist.

*I love your pies!* Please make them available at New Seasons Market in Portland Oregon. They are another natural foods chain in oregon.

I also love the artwork on your packaging too!

I was at our local Whole Foods market and was taken by the artwork on your apple pie box. I love Stephen Huneck's style and really bought the pie for the box. Lucky Me! That was one terrific pie. The crust was perfect, flaky top and bottom. The apples and spices tasted so fresh my family thought it was homemade. Needless to say I went back to the market today to pick up a couple more. While I was there I ran into a friend and told her how great your pie was, someone else chimed in with high praise and within minutes there was not a Vermont Mystic Pie to be had. What a great collaboration. Your pie does just what pie should do, make you happy and make you want more...kinda like the artwork.

Hi,

I never write to companies, but I'm making an exception here because I can't keep baking 3-4 of your pies a week without telling you how much we love them. I have 5 big kids at home who study and train (for sports) hard. Giving them your blueberry apple pie is a great way to feed those bodies. (I love your pie too, but I'm not training quite so vigorously, so I usually give my top crust to one of the kids.) My children eat your pie for snacks, dessert, breakfast...

I'm a pie baker, but I'll never make a blueberry from scratch again. Our Costco (Waltham, MA) doesn't have your apple or your plain crusts, but I'm hopeful to see them soon.

I think that you should keep doing what you do well, but if you're thinking of expanding your product line, here's my vote: My other favorite pie combinations are blueberry/peach, raspberry/peach, and raspberry/rhubarb. Strawberry pie, made just like apple pie (no glazing) is great too, especially with a butter crust.

Best wishes,
Susan from Massachusetts

I am MAD at you. I was all ready to taste another mediocre manufactured frozen pie. I would just have a little taste and think, "yes, I will just have to make my own one afternoon" .. NOPE! Yours was FANTASTIC! My husband and I cannot believe it was made across the country and baked in our oven!

You are truly mystic to be that good.

Now because of you, my little "taste", became a good piece of pie. Matter of fact, it became lunch. YUM! I am going to tell everyone about your pies.

Last week my wife brought home a Blueberry with Apple Vermont Mystic Pie from our Whole Foods Market. We baked it up that evening. The aroma that came from our oven was out of this world, but when we tasted the finished product we were completely amazed. If we hadn't taken it out of the box and put it in the oven ourselves, we wouldn't have believed that this was a "store-bought" pie. The fruit was flavorful, the seasoning perfect and the crust to die for.

Thanks for making an honest product. You've shown what is possible when people care about what they're doing, It is obvious that you care!

We'll be buying a LOT more of your wonderful pies!

Dear mystic pie company,

That was a damn fine apple pie! What flaky crust! And the dog is cute too. We were skeptical about the quality of a frozen pie, but were pleasantly surprised. It tastes good with ice cream too! We can't wait to try the other kind!

Your pies ROCK!
...that's what my kids wanted me to tell you, especially my son, who is a "selective" eater. Thank you so much for making such a delicious pie, with really top quality products--your filling is so surprisingly REAL. We bought our first one at Costco, which is a big surprise in and of itself. Since I rarely get there often, I hope I can find your pies at Whole Foods in Reston. I'll be looking for you wherever I can. Thanks again for all the hard work.

Teresa

p.s. My dog comes running to the computer when he hears your website dog bark! It's a funny sight.

Wow - your pie was amazing!

I went to Costco to get blueberries to make a blueberry pie for my 9 year old son who feels he is living in an area deprived of blueberry pie. Your pie was sitting in the freezer case next to the blueberries so I skeptically got one of your pies and my bag of berries - I knew your pie was going to be disappointing and I would then make my own and show off how much better homemade is than "previously prepared"!

I have not had to use my bag of beries for anything other than blueberry pancakes - and in, fact, I'm going back to buy two more pies. Thank you for a quality product that truly stands out in todays mass-produced, over indulgent processed food world.

I will recommend your pies to my friends, mailman, and the lady in line next to me at Costco. My son, needless to say, will recommend your pie to everyone in fourth grade at Crossfield Elementary School.

Mr. Barash and Ms. Nedich -

The very best "store bought" pie I have ever eaten is your Apple - Blueberry confection. (It's better than all but the homemade apple pies made by my Aunt Cora, many, many years ago.) The combination of fruits is a terrific taste sensation as is their differing textures; a delight on the tongue. The crust is a treat in and of itself...delectable and flaky...a taste that complements the apples, blueberries, and spices. It's an amazing feat to produce a pie with such quality and attention to detail.Thank you for not compromising on that quality.

P.S. My wife purchased the pie (first of many!!) at Costco in Chantilly, VA, this afternoon.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for such a delicious frozen pie!!! I have to tell you right now I grew up with the world’s best mom who taught me how to make pies when I was a little girl with my own little pie plate; and we didn’t even have enough money for extra apples so my pies were just raisins & nuts but my Dad always pretended it was delicious. Anyway I always bake all my own desserts. Always. I mean always. And from scratch. So you can imagine my surprise when my sister & brother-in-law came over for dinner and brought a frozen pie?? I thought they were nuts. Why on earth would they bring something store-bought when she’s one of the best bakers on the planet? Anyway you have to trust big sisters…so we baked the pie & I am blown away. WOWIE-ZOWIE!!! You guys ROCK THE PIE HOUSE!!!! I am so happy for you guys & all your customers (including me, your newest J) and I really wanted to congratulate you on pulling it off!!! I’m serious, I can’t tell the difference! And it’s so unbelievably delicious, it’s a real treat. It makes all my treadmill time totally worth it!! In fact, I bought a pie & served it!! None of my friends could believe it was store-bought & they actually insisted that I produce the box because they know I do it all from scratch. When I read the connection with Ben & Jerry in the early years EVERYTHING CLICKED. I remember getting hooked on Ben & Jerry’s Dastardly Mash in 1983/4 & writing them to congratulate them (and I was only in high school)---but that high quality is there.

Anyway, mazel tov & I wish you tons of continued success!!!

I know you must receive countless daily emails regarding your pies and I NEVER write complementary emails to companies, but I being someone who seaches for quality, I have to say these are absolutely the most delectable pies I've ever tasted. Pure and simple and created with high standards, BLESS YOU for creating them, pricing them fairly (I drive the hour I have to just to get to a Wholefoods), and continuing to come out with additional items. You are the BEST.

Your wonderful apple pies first caught my attention because my husband and I are huge fans of Steve Huneck’s artworks. We visit his gallery every year when we stay at the Woodstock Inn. I love to cook and almost never buy ready-made dishes, but your artwork on the box led me to read the ingredients list and believe that what was inside was every bit as good as I could make from scratch. I’m thrilled to tell you how much we enjoyed pie #1 last week. Pie #2 is in the oven right now, to be enjoyed by my son and his friends this evening after work, while we all watch “Snakes on a Plane”. Should be fun, and tasty.

We shop at Whole Foods in Hingham, MA. Any idea when they’ll have your new blueberry-apple pie?

On a professional level, I’m also impressed with your delivery of your promise, as I’m in the advertising business and work closely with natural foods companies such as Equal Exchange Fair Trade Coffees and Frontier Natural Products Co-op. I’m thus familiar with the organic and natural food sector both as a consumer and as a professional. You have much to be proud of, and if you ever need help spreading the word, I’d be delighted to become involved.

Sincerely,
Roni

There's a song by Raffi called Blueberry Pie -- sung with Bette Midler. I love your pie as much as their song. (I picture your bakery having that song playing in the air.) I'm a pie freak, and have been known to make some pretty good ones myself. I normally don't buy ready made pies, but, I lived in Vermont for 10 years, and buy Vermont products whenever I can. I'm an artist, and was drawn to your box in the freezer at Whole Foods. My middle name is Berry (really -- a family name that I have lived up to -- I die for berries). My husband and I have not had a good apple since leaving Vermont -- except the cases we've ordered from Vermont. We LOVE Vermont apples. So, if that wasn't enough, as the pie was baking, I went to your website and found you had connections with Ben Cohen (we both went to Colgate) and Hammelman (we lived right near Brattleboro and bought our daily bread at Hammelman's Bakery).

Okay, so I already loved your pie before I tasted it. But woah, the taste took the cake! The apples are so juicy, the blueberries so blueberry-y, the crust so right! Four days later (we went away for the weekend and ate the last piece tonight) it was absolutely just as good. You can count on us for a pie a week! Keep them coming!

We had the apple pie yesterday, BEST PIE I'VE EVER EATEN!!! Thank you. No one was very hungry after Christmas (eve) dinner, and even less when we heard it was a "store bought" pie. That is, until we saw it! THIS is from a package? Amazing, seriously THE BEST EVER!!!!

My girlfriend's Mom bought it at Fresh Market in Huntsville, AL. We are looking forward to trying the blueberry pie VERY soon. Keep up the GREAT work. Thanks.

You must need a license to make pies this good.

Honestly, the blueberry-apple pie is the best I've ever tasted. I've never seen so much fruit in any blueberry pie before. Combining it with apples makes it a true stand out.

I'm a big fan of Cabot products so that's a plus. The superior ingredients --and these ingredients in combination with special touches like black currant are sure to make you rich.

From the product to the packaging to the cooking directions and Website it's clear you love what you do.

Wishing you continued success,

Oh, my gosh!! If there's pie in the afterlife, it's got to be yours!! I picked up one of your blueberry pies this afternoon because my five year old has been begging for it and we can't get fresh blueberries this time of year. I popped it in the oven when I got home so we could have it for dessert, not really expecting much, but knowing it would make Rachel happy even if it was just okay.

Wow. I've had some good blueberry pies in my day. Heck, I even make a mean blueberry pie. But this pie. Good gosh!

Thank you so much for a delightful and delicious experience. I may just be able to stop making pie altogether!

I'm just thrilled to have found your pies! I got this one at The Whole Foods Market in... hmmm.. Palatine? Arlington Heights? It's hard to tell where one Chicago suburb ends and another begins!

Keep up the good work. Now if you could just do something with cranberries...

Your pie is delicious. I, too, would not have bought your pie without first sampling it at our local Whole Foods. We bought one a minute after eating a piece. Your reusable pie plate is great too. Thanks very much, and keep up the great work.

Laura - I'm the one who called you from Atlanta to ask you about piecing together two pie crusts to fit into my pretty red ceramic deep dish pie dish. I cut and crimped as you suggested and it worked beautifully. We even used the extra crust to decorate with cookie cutter dog bone shapes! We used your recipe with the real maple syrup and it came out delicious! We did have to bake the pie quite a bit longer for the deep dish pie. Anyway - it was great and I will certainly use your pie crusts again!

Thank you - Vicki

Hi, My husband and I agree that this is the best store bought apple pie we've ever had - it truly tastes homemade. I was reluctant to take it home from Whole Foods because I've always been disappointed in store bought pies before. Absolutely delicious! How do I ensure that the bottom crust comes out as flaky as the top?

You build an apple pie just like my mother used to do.

Oh My Gosh! I cannot remember having a better Apple Pie in my life! Sad to say, I was in a pinch this year - making EVERYTHING for Thanksgiving, as usual. I decided to try one of your pies out and we are now all fighting over the leftover's - it has gotten to the point of being "hidden" in our outside fridge - well, I beat them all because I can get up earlier, so gotta go and get another piece before it is all gone! Seriously, this is the best Pie I have ever made or eaten. Keep on making wonderfulpies! I will pass on the word to my friends :)

I bought your pie at Wild Oats in Vancouver, WA. It saved me from making one for dessert.

I have never had one before, and I can assure you - I am going back to get one for Christmas before they are all gone!

I just discovered your apple pie at a Whole Foods Sampling in Los Gatos, CA last night and served it for dessert for our 15th anniversary. My husband is from Brattleboro, VT so I thought it would taste like home for him and WOW, was it phenomenal. Sooo, now I'm trying to find a location that sells it on Long Island for my family for Thanksgiving. I didn't see any locations in NY but some of the customer feedback stated that they found it in stores in NY. I am looking for locations on Long Island in the 11768 or 11705 zip code area.

Thank you so much for your help - you've got another addict to add to your ranks!

WE saw an ad for your pies in the Boston Magazine and decided we would take a ride to Whole Foods to buy one...Well...we bought one....and another....and another...and another...we have sampled all your varieties and to say they are the very best is unrealistic...as they are truly the very best we have ever tried...so now our household is sold on Vermont mystic pie....

I first discovered your pie at the Burlington Pumpkin Festival on Columbus Day weekend, and it was so good that I tried to figure out how to get it home for Thanksgiving, 6 weeks away. I was told that they were sold frozen in 6-pie lots, and I couldn't see my way clear to buying and keeping frozen 6 pies. So, sadly, we did without apple pie on Thanksgiving. Today I stopped in at Whole Foods in Ridgewood, and it was a dream come true. There was a Vermont Mystic Pie saying "take me home," which I did, and it lasted exactly 15 minutes after I got it out of the oven. What an incredible pie! It's homemade, but without the work! I'm going to let Whole Foods know to keep stocking your pies.

Hi, Folks:

Just love both your apple and blueberry apple pie but I have one teeny compliant.

A 10 servings pie is WAY too much for my beloved husband and me. It's just the two of us now and we eat pie for almost a WEEK (Yes, I know , some of you are saying. ..."and the problem is.......?". The madness cannot continue. We will explode!

We would LOVE it if you and whole Foods would offer a smaller pie. Maybe 4-5 servings. Our ever-expanding Boomer waistlines as well as our empty nest would thank you.

Come on, girls and boys!!! You just gotta cut the recipe in half and get a good supplier for smaller tins!! Think of it as your patriotic duty to fight obesity in America!! Medicare will thank you!!

Many thanks to you and whole foods for offering such a wonderful product!

Thank you for a taste of home. It takes me back to Fall apple picking and my childhood in VT. Now if I could just afford the plane tickets...Ben and Jerry's and your apple pie will have to do for a while.

As I was on my way to the Ben and Jerry's case at my Whole Foods looking for quick dessert ideas the graphics on your box grabbed my eye. Next I saw the big "Vermont" (my family lives in Sharon) and finally I saw Sally. Well, I bought the pie because of Sally, and then the party got cancelled. Instead of sticking it in the freezer, I put it in the oven to take to work in the AM. It's baking now, the crust looks GREAT though the window, it smells fantastic, and I can't wait till it's done. After reading all the other comments, I might not wait till the AM.

My sons and I stumbled across the pie at Whole Foods. We were stocking up on our (weekly) pints of Ben and Jerry's and my oldest son asked to purchase the pie, too. We look forward to trying the blueberry pie...that will take me back to summers in Maine, I am certain. Feel free to post the e-mail. I have spread the word to my sister in California to look out for the pies. Enjoy the beautiful Fall leaves and since you work in Waterbury, stop by and have a warm apple cider donut at the Cold Hollow Cider Store (on the road to Stowe). Those are yummy, too.

First, I bought the pie because of the cover design... wonderful work! Next, I baked the pie and inhaled the aroma of the cooling pie... exquisite! Then, I glanced at the ingredients... my gosh, you recognize the Northern Spy apple!! This is from my childhood in Oswego, NY, and I was transported to forgotten times... then, I ate half the pie in the first sitting... amazing pie... reminds me of my wife's, my mother's (in that order) and tonight the rest of the pie will be appreciated... thank you so much... now I will descend upon our local market and explain that they must continue to carry this pie!

Dear Dave,
I am a damned good cook and know a thing or two about pie. This evening my friend came for dinner and brought one of your pies. We ate grilled swordfish, arugala salad and polenta while your pie was baking. I cut the pie, the crust was crispy. I tasted the juice. It was ambrosial. We sat down and ate our pie. My husband, traitor that he is, said it was the best pie he has ever eaten.

Actually, I think he may be right. Your all American pie is decidedly French - buttery, but restrained, rich, but not too and definitely not too sweet.

Perfect.

I intend to serve it to my friends.  And pretend it is my own.

Warmest regards,
A customer in DC

p.s.  ... the two women offering tastes at the Georgetown Whole Foods were charming and the pies were just flying out of the freezer.
Please let us know if you are planning to make other varieties.

I arrived at my Vermont home from New York just in time to celebrate the engagement of my nephew. I was preparing a celebration dinner. I had just enough time to shop and cook, but not enough time to prepare dessert. I am the baker of the family. My nephew has enjoyed my homemade desserts throughout the years. Everyone looks forward to dessert, so I was a bit nervous about a "store bought" item.

I found your pie in a local supermarket. Your clever packaging caught my eye immediately. I live near Stephen Huneke's store in Woodstock, so I recognized the black lab. I thought what I read on the package was too good to be true. I bought the pie, baked it, and served it warm. WOW!!! What a terrific surprise...it was absolutely delicious, B&J a la mode for some, plain for others.

I saved the box, and as we sat and oohed and aahed about how this was really the best apple pie we had ever eaten....we enjoyed reading the information....cover to cover. Eating dessert, and learning at the same time. (I'm a retired teacher).

This was a delightful, unexpected surprise. I guess I've baked my last apple pie.
No, my feeings aren't hurt. But, let me know before you start baking cakes.

Thanks, AL

Never did I think that our kitchen could actually smell like “homemade,” while we baked your delicious pie for Easter. Right out of the cute box (we are BIG fans of “Sally”), the pie’s shape and bigger top looked just like the pies my mother-in-law makes. Upon serving it to our friends and family, everyone could not believe how good the crust tasted and how fresh the apples were-- not soggy and stewed in sugar mush. Our eight year old daughter loved the apples so much, that she asked for seconds, while the ice cream on the side just melted… that NEVER happens!! I hope you start selling your pies in Chicago, so my family can enjoy a great New England treat!

Best apple pie I've ever had--best ingredients and packaging as well! I was looking for pie, something I rarely buy more than twice a year (and that includes holiday shopping). Already I've bought your pie twice since discovering it this year! I bought it at Zabar's, a specialty food emporium in Manhattan. The packaging caught my eye but what really swayed me was the no GMO, no trans fat, and its Vermont heritage.

Thanks so much, Jane S

Dear David & Laura

Im not one of those people who usually 'write in' but I was so impressed by your Perfect Apple Pie that I decided I had to write & tell you & say Thank You! I live in NYC & discovered it in Wholefoods when I was doing my Christmas shop. It was the art work on the box that first caught my eye - there was just something 'friendly' about it & so I reached in to investigate. Organic Apple Pie with an all butter crust.... sounds good. A little pricey, but this is NYC & this is Wholefoods & if the claims on the box were anything to go by then it should be well worth it. I was raised in the countryside of North Yorkshire England. We had a very large garden & our own apple orchard. My Grandmother was an excellent baker & she used to make what I thought were the best apple pies in the world - that was - until I tried yours yesterday - (& I dont think she would mind me saying that - God bless her.) A light, all butter crust. A perfect blend of organic apples, not too sweet not too tart with just the right hint of cinnamon. Simple all natural ingredients made with a love & appreciation of Good Food - a winning recipe producing the finest apple pie Ive had the pleasure of tasting. I glazed mine with beaten egg & a little golden sugar & baked it slowly until deep golden brown allowing it to cool a little & served it with haagen dazs vanilla ice cream & it was bliss. Thank you Thank you Thank you for The Best Apple Pie I have ever tasted.

Another happy customer. Mr. C. Colbeck. NYC

Hello! Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your pie, which I tried for the first time this week. I even emailed a whole bunch of my friends about it! (see the email below).

Warmly and with a full tummy, Patricia in West Hartford, CT

Dear friends, all of whom I know love good food--

It is not often that I am moved to expound the virtues of a store-bought pie, but here I go. I have been REALLY sick during the past week, as some of you know, and hence feeling sorry for myself. I decided, once I could keep food down again, to indulge my senses by baking the frozen pie I had gotten at Whole Foods a while back. Just the odors were healing! But this Vermont Mystic apple pie was unbelievably good, as well. The crust was remarkable---all butter, I might add. I went on the website (think cute, funky graphics and a socially responsible story, a la Ben & Jerry's). I have been charmed by the product and the company--and I have too much time on my hands while recovering so here's my plug for you to try this great pie. It is carried at Whole Foods and Shaw's around here. You can go on the website if you live elsewhere. This is gonna be a new potluck staple for me! Enjoy!

Dear Sir,

This is the night before Thanksgiving and my family has already gone through one apple pie. An overwhelming applause to you. Each and every one of us, has said it is by far, the best. I picked it up at my grocery store, because they were out of the usual brand. Well, never again will I get any other pie but yours. We live in a small town and the store manager listens to every comment, you can be sure I will tell him of this success story and to continue to have it in stoce. Just had to let you know.......Fine Pie

You might imagine that Bill Suhr, your Champlain Orchards supplier of Vermont apples, grew up on apple pies coming out of my oven in Maryland. He did – and he even learned to make a mean apple pie himself. So, as his mom, I love the fact that apples from his beautiful orchard are part of your successful Vermont pie venture!

As one who loves to bake, I expect a lot when I eat someone else’s apple pie. And I also am pretty invested in the quality of your commercial pies that feature my son’s apples. I have to say I was amazed that a pie that goes from freezer to oven could be so delectable, that both the top and bottom crusts are so crisp and flaky, and that the seasoning is so consistent from batch to batch. Of course I am smiling when I say I was not amazed that the apples taste as wonderful as they do!

I bake several dozen Vermont Mystic pies every Columbus Day Sunday when we hold our farm pig roast at the orchard as a thank you to our customers and celebration of Champlain Orchard’s harvest season. I display your fabulous box and promote your pies with great pride! And now, to my joy, Whole Foods stores throughout Maryland make it possible for me to buy locally and savor Vermont – while gaining some free time away from my kitchen.

Bravo to you!

We made one of your wonderful pies last night. You have completely blown my theory that there is nothing as good as homemade. It was the most delicious apple pie I have ever tasted and I fully intend to bake one on Thanksgiving for my family (I've not yet decided whether to admit to them that it's store bought).

I just read your story in Vermont Magazine. Greenwich is over an hour away from my home, any chance of getting them in mainstream stores here in Connecticut? Or will I have to wait until my next trip to Vermont? My mouth is salivating thinking about some of your warm pie with B&J vanilla ice cream melting on top of it.

I just had to drop you a line. We tasted your pie (with B&J ice cream of course) at Whole Foods in Devon Pa. We liked it so much that we bought as many as we thought we could stuff in our freezer. And THANK YOU for giving perfect directions on baking the pie – it’s the key for perfection! And your promoters had to be some of the nicest folks we had the pleasure to meet. My hubby tasted it first and chased me thru the store until I would try some (I wasn’t a pie lover). I have now seen the light! Wow, great stuff!

The first one we baked and thought we’d invite some friends over to share. As that smell went thru our house, we decided “let them eat cake” and ate the whole darn thing ourselves for dinner. YUMMY! And here’s a helpful hint that worked wonders for us – store the leftovers in the veggie drawer – the kids will never find it!

Thanks again and again and again, N.L.

Hi from Cape Cod,
We were visiting a friend in Vermont and had one of your pies last week...we loved it and I do not even usually eat apple pie...we enjoyed the variety of options in crust cooking..good thing our marijuana days are over or we never would have been able to decide how to cook it!! Are there any available in Massachusetts? Will you ship, you definitely could sell your pie to Whole Foods and be rich and famous. I had given up on pies for years because I did not want to eat hydrogenated fats in pie crusts and was so glad to find yours with the butter.....keep up the good work

Thanks, A.C.

Greetings!
Just wanted to drop a line, as irresistible aromas of Vermont Mystic Apple Pie in my oven penetrate every nook and cranny of my apartment, and say thank you so much for making truly wonderful pies. It is not hard to tell an object of high quality that has been made with love and care, and your pie is up there in my life with Picasso and Shakespeare.

I first saw your pie in my local Whole Foods in Cambridge where samples were distributed to eager customers by the pie master and Ben and Jerry who were also supplying fabulous ice cream. Well, I have bought it there a few times since then, no one who tried it has been left unsatisfied, and I always buy Ben and Jerry's ice cream too now.

So thank you for providing fine moments of true gastronomical joy in this miserable winter to those of us who so respect the fine art of apple pie.

When visiting family in Vermont, I always buy your apple pies - the best "store-bought" pie I ever had. One problem...I live in Maryland and wish they were available in our area. What plans do you have to expand your distribution area? Could a local independent store be a distributor for you? I'd be glad to put the proprietor in touch with you if that is an option. Thanks for your great pie and for your concerns for our society.

Pretty amazing store bought pie. The filling is especially impressive. Real looking apple slices. Real apple taste. I bake pies - an inheritance from my mother who was a great pie baker. I am a firm believer in the all butter pie crust. No lard. No white stuff in a can. Only real Cabot butter. So I was also impressed with the crust. Whenever I see a crust as flaky as yours I am suspicious about the crust being a pure butter crust but your crust tastes great and I am again, impressed. Way to go.

A few years ago, my husband and I were trying to figure out what it would cost to make a pie from scratch and sell it and we came up with a price similar to yours. At that point in time, "homemade" area pies were going for $6.50. But the crust and filling were pretty bland. Hardly the homemade taste you'd hope for. Your company seems to have come as close to a right-out-of-the-oven taste as I can imagine. And the price isn't so bad either. Good luck.

Bought one of those apple pies at Steeple's on the way back from Maine on Saturday. Oh, my God, are they delicious. Came out of the oven and except for the perfectly crimpled crust, was homemade in every way. Apple pie is my favorite and these are GOOD.
